I have been part of the Unity Spiritual Center congregation since 2005.  In the past 15 years, I have had conversations with many people who are curious about Unity as a movement, and what their core teachings are.  “Unity, is that like Unitarian?,” is a very common question.  This is not surprising, nor should it be taken as an indication of someone not knowing something they should.

Abundance:  Is It What We Think It Is? – Yes, and no.

In today’s world, there is no shortage of images and messages of “more is better.”  We may have heard the saying, “whoever dies with the most toys wins.”  Lyrics from a well-known Pink Floyd song tell us, “Money, get away, you get a good job with more pay and you’re okay.  Money, it’s a gas, grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.”

What Was That You Said?

When we were children, we all heard the saying, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”  It is a good thing for children (and adults) to learn that what others say to them or about them should not affect how they feel about themselves, but it is rarely as easy as simply disregarding negativity from others.

Our Thoughts Are Things

As another calendar year draws to a close, many people make “New Year’s Resolutions.”  Losing weight, stopping smoking, stopping drinking, advancing our career, repairing relationships, and travelling are among the most common things people want to change in their lives.  These are all worthwhile goals and deserve our attention and best efforts to achieve them.
