This Too Shall Pass (Aug 11, 2019)
While it is true that no one is exempt from life's ups and downs, Unity teaches us that there is a way out of suffering. Very similar to what Buddhism, Hinduism, and the Greeks taught, we know that if we detach from the clinging to wishing things were different, we are then much better able to move forward in life from where we are are-by connecting with Divine Mind and becoming one with the Father.
My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father's hand. The Father and I are one.
John 10:29-30
Fire, Water, Truth, and Falsehood (August 18, 2019)
Rev. Joanne reminded us that for many, truth is a relative term. She cites a Pew Research poll from 2016 that says that 65% of American adults believe that "fake news" confuses our public discourse. Now, three years later, that number is likely much higher. But what exactly is fake news?
This Harmonious Present Moment (October 13, 2019)
What does the "harmonious present moment" look like during an argument with our spouse, bumper-to-bumper traffic, grief, or a financial challenge? It does not mean ignoring the emotions that we are feeling. The argument is stressful. The traffic is frustrating. Grief hurts. The financial challenge is scary. A healthy way to approach all situations, including the most difficult moments in our life, is mindfulness.
Allow Doing to Arise from Being (October 27, 2019)
The "what" we are practicing are those things we have learned throughout our lives, either intentionally through active study or from our culture and environment. We can operate only from one of two states of being-love or fear.
We Are One (November 24, 2019)
When we say "we are one," we affirm that we are all Children of God and have the same direct access to Divine Mind and its all-loving guidance, if we are willing to listen. And when we say, "we are whole, perfect, and complete," we mean that regardless of outer circumstances, we stand in Faith knowing that as Children of God, we are like a hologram of Divine manifestation-the whole image is present in every part.
Do You Hear What I Hear? (December 8, 2019)
Rev. Joanne shared a wonderful quotation about peace from Fr. Richard Rohr. Fr. Richard is the Founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation, an organization whose mission is to open the door for a critical mass of spiritual seekers to experience the transformative wisdom of the Christian contemplative tradition and nurture its emergence in service to the healing of our world.
