The Christian Scriptures have had, arguably, the most widespread influence on spirituality of any collection of writings in history. Those scriptures consist of Gospels, letters, history, and apocryphal literature more commonly known as the "New Testament" of the Judeo-Christian Bible.
In this five-week class, Rev. Joanne Rowden will support students to develop a basic understanding of the Christian Scriptures' meaning for the people to whom they were written. Based on the premise that, whatever else the Christian Scriptures may be, they definitely are the response of early Christian writers to both the person and the message of Jesus Christ, this course examines the Christian Scriptures as a testament about Jesus by early Christian communities.
Our required text is Reading the Bible Again for the First Time, by Marcus Borg.
