Are you Living in Joy?

(By Stan Smith as adapted from an article by Joel Baehr, Mesa, AZ)

Answer this question, "Are you having fun with your life?"
Drill right down. What are you doing with your life?  What excites you.
Where's the buzz?  Life itself is what you've got going for yourself.  So are you living in joy?
Many people, in fact perhaps most people, live at a survival level.  Others live a mundane, boring life.  What are you living?

Do you have a memory like this one from my own life growing up in Indiana?
"I remember lazy summers with lots of time to go swimming, biking, or whatever. I had one passion in which I would lose myself for days at a time. Model airplanes— tracing the pattern on to balsa wood and painstakingly cutting out the  pieces with exacto knives. Doing the assembly, pasting on the decals, and then taking the newly created plane to a high window for its first flight. What delight when it soared out the window and across the lawn."  Do you remember your childhood passions? What made your heart soar?

So many people are using up their precious moments of life striving for a bigger house, newer car, college for the kids, and many additional outer expressions of the so-called necessities of life. How many moms and dads are overwhelmed just trying to keep up with their notions of what is called for to be a successful family? Being too busy trying to manage a career and a family and not having fun and joy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some people born as ripe, plump grapes have become dried up old prunes.  Why be a raisin when you can be filled with juice?

Here is a task for you that can change your life. Begin now to figure out how to live in the most delightful, fulfilling, stress-free life you can imagine for yourself. Here are some truths.

Life for everyone is meant to be the experience of joyfully expressing God-given gifts. We were born to be spontaneous and to play happily. Why did we stop? What is so important about being an adult that we shut down the joys of childhood?

Life as an expression of God can be child-like again. Get this truth, "God wants me to live in the consciousness of my Godliness, not the rules of ‘ought', ‘should,' and ‘must.'" The kingdom is a happy, joy-filled state of mind where all our seats are reserved and ready for us. It's possible for anyone to live like this. You can live it! This life can be yours!

Make attending Sunday Lessons and classes a habit and you will learn how you can make inner changes and get your joy going. Be the person who is doing what you love so much that you would do it for free. Share your enthusiasm for life with everyone you meet. Meet whatever comes on the screen with a laugh and a shout of excitement and joy.

Now get some paper and start writing your answer to this question: What will it take for me to live a life where I'll be saying, "I'm joyful today and excited about tomorrow!"

You can't get inner joy like buying a new washing machine that'll wash, dry, press and hang up your clothes. This is an inside job you must do for yourself. And you can! We have the tools you need and will gladly share them with you. See you on Sunday!
