| Dear Unity Spiritual Center Friends:
What must it be like for a busy person to suddenly die? We know
that we leave our bodies behind, but go on in consciousness, so what must
it be like to go from having a million things to do, to none? I wonder
if, after the shock of having made the transition is over, and we figure
out where in the universe we are, if we ever get back to thinking about
all the things we didn't accomplish. How long does it take before
we find amusement in the gravity by which we went about trying to preserve
ourselves and our things and to gather new ones? Assuming we have
some time to relax before we begin looking at the lessons learned in our
lifetime, and preparing for the next one, do we immediately start thinking
of the big picture things we didn't do, or do we still fret over the missed
veterinary appointment? Or (and hopefully), are we so overjoyed to be immersed
in the Presence of God, that the gravity of our earthly experience and
unfinished list of tasks simply vanishes?
"Got everything done, died anyway," says a funny lady's tombstone.
It's likely this lady did not take her to-do list too seriously.
She may have been one of those who stopped to smell and to grow the roses
often. She may have laughed easily at the antics and troubles of
her children and grandchildren, knowing how fleeting it all is, as they
pass from one stage to another. She probably rolled her eyes at her
bills and joked about her wrinkles, and enjoyed the comic variety of her
husband's snoring. She probably did have a list on the frig and in
her mind of all the things she needed and wanted to do in this lifetime,
but was wise enough to live
joyfully and love often, while she tinkered with her list.
Many of us, and maybe even most of us, wear life too heavily, like a
girdle instead of a loose garment as the Bible somewhere says. One
day every single thing we are worried and fretful about in this moment
will not exist, not in our consciousness, not in God consciousness.
In God Consciousness there is light, love, compassion, sweetness, joy,
and companionship - only goodness. And that is where we'll be.
So, since we're going there anyway, we might as well lighten up and have
more fun while we're here!
